TRANSFER is a technique used in propaganda and advertising, known as association. It projects positive or negative qualities to make the second more acceptable or to discredit it. The President being filmed or photographed in front of the country’s flag in the United States is an example. Celebrity endorsement is another technique used. In Russia, authorities and pro-government media associate LGBT with pedophilia for a negative purpose.
Examples of Transfer Fallacy
Transfer is an emotional appeal, associating something known with a product, idea, or candidate. Celebrity endorsements and well-known objects and images are examples, evoking an emotional response. Images of Arlington National Cemetery might be used to raise money for veterans’ groups. The image of Mount Everest is often used for selling outdoor products.
Transfer Techniques in Patient Movement
Place the chair at the side of the bed at a slight angle. The patient moves forward to the edge of the chair. The patient is positioned at the edge of the wheelchair or bed to start the transfer. The therapist holds the patient’s hand and arm, not pulling but keeping it steady. The patient should place one hand on the arm support of the chair, the other hand being held by the therapist. To get up, the patient leans forward and pushes down with their arms and legs and, if needed, on the therapist’s hand. Make sure the patient’s feet are placed flat on the floor and their hands on the chair’s armrests or next to them on the bed. The therapist assists the patient to keep their feet flat on the floor and bring their head and trunk forward. The therapist should assist as needed with the patient’s feet and guard or assist through the transfer.
Before sitting down, instruct the patient to reach back for the surface. The patient should not hold onto the end of the sliding board to avoid pinching their fingers.
